Goals of the Festival

Visibility and Promotion of Women in Mountain Film

  • Create a platform to distribute films made by or about women, often underrepresented in mountain film.
  • Improve the exposure of female directors and athletes in the film industry.
  • Offer new stories that diverge from those typically seen in mountain film by highlighting unique female perspectives that explore resilience, adventure, and a close relationship with nature.

Inclusion and Accessibility

  • Make culture and film accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities, through inclusion initiatives such as providing closed captions, sign-language interpreters, and the online version of the festival.
  • Make accessibility a key pillar of the festival by ensuring that each viewer can fully participate in the cultural experience, regardless of their disabilities.

Education and Awareness

  • Raise public awareness of film education and female representation in mountain sports.
  • Encourage critical reflection on stereotypes and promote inspiring role models that push the limits of traditional portrayals.
  • Create spaces to discuss these new stories and role models, notably through film screenings, but also through meetings, debates, and interactive workshops.
  • Strengthen the educational aspect of the festival by integrating practical workshops, such as directing workshops where filmmakers can hone their skills in film and audiovisual production, particularly in a mountain setting.

Gender Diversity in the Film Industry

  • Encourage gender diversity in production and direction teams by showcasing women’s skills through professional initiatives such as the Femmes en Montagne publication, a dedicated networking day, and specific technical workshops.
  • Promote more diversity in careers related to directing mountain films, to foster a more inclusive and varied environment in the industry.

Commitment to the Environment

  • Inspiring commitment to preserving natural spaces by raising public awareness of ecological issues through cinema, post-screening debates, and workshops that encourage good practices for protecting mountain ecosystems.
  • Making the Festival a place of reflection and discussion to rethink our relationship with the mountains and reduce our impact on the environment.

Testimonials

What people are saying about the Festival:

To give pride of place to women at a festival like this, available online and in person over five days with a huge variety of different workshops and films, I think it’s really important for the development of female sports.

Lucy Paltz - Journalist

In my view, this is the festival that best showcases women in all types of mountain activities and also provides a space for them to get together. So every year, it’s a wonderful opportunity to meet others and to celebrate the mountains with other women and people generally. It’s an honor to be selected here.

Coline Ballet-Baz- French freestyle skier and director

Thanks again to the entire festival team for this wonderful edition and the family-like atmosphere that you foster. It’s always a pleasure to attend as a viewer and the experience as a presenter was just as great. It feels like home, a place to meet others and share wonderful emotions.

Clara Domas - Post-production - Motion Design - Live - Direction

This festival shows female-directed films that are often overlooked, forgotten by some, that we don’t necessarily watch. We are proud to join this movement, to join your team to showcase all this female talent tonight.

Virginie Troussier – Author and member of the Jury 2022

This festival really touched me by its choice of films, its commitments, and the messages that are shared. We can, in my view, talk about gender equality without talking about “feminism” which means nothing and everything these days…I think your festival is very fair in its manner of highlighting women without pedaling activism. Bravo, it’s very moving.
Very professional and warm-hearted festival team! Unique and dedicated media work and communication. Thank you for letting me participate with Via Sedna!

Ramona Waldner - Director
